TAHITI

Teiva Air Tahiti Nui

Tahiti is a volcanic island located in the South Pacific about 4,000 miles south of Hawaii. Tahiti is the largest island in the archipelago of the Society Islands. Papeete, Tahiti is the capital city and has the only international airport in French Polynesia. As you can expect from the name, French is the main language spoken in Tahiti. Not to worry, you’ll find many locals who speak can English in Tahiti.

Tahiti home to the mutant wave known as Teahupoo and hosts the ASP World Tour event that tests the limits of professional surfers tube riding abilities. When it gets big, it is a wave without a take-off zone, that begins with an elevator drop and end with warping barrel that heaves and throws the thickest lip you’ll ever witness. And if you make it through that, the compression from the tube caving in on itself will shoot you out like a cannon, so hold on, because the acceleration from the spit is incredible. When you make it out, you can’t help but raise your arm and claim. It’s quite an experience!

Teahupoo is not the only reef pass that has good waves in Tahiti. Befriend the locals and they might just invite you to one of their local secret spots.  The remainder of French Polynesia is full of undiscovered surf spots, you could spend years sailing around these atolls in search of waves.
